The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:
There is only one new confirmed case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) today (May 26). The case involves a healthcare worker of Caritas Medical Centre.
However, the number of patients recovered and discharged from hospitals continues to rise to 1276. Of them, one was discharged today.
On the other hand, the number of SARS patients in intensive care unit continues to drop to a new low of 37 from 127 in mid-April. These 37 cases are part of the 109 cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. In addition, 74 are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.
One patient died in Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH). This brought to 267 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.
The deceased is a man aged 45. His information is as follows:
