As at 1 pm today, five more patients are recovered. This brought to 84 the total number of patients who have recovered patients from atypical pneumonia and have been discharged from public hospitals.
Most of the 601 patients currently in hospital are showing positive responses to the new treatment protocol. Sixty-seven of them are receiving treatment in intensive care unit.
Meanwhile, an additional 75 patients with symptoms of atypical pneumonia were admitted to public hospitals. They include four healthcare workers and 52 patients from Amoy Gardens. The remaining 19 were new patients and contacts of patients with atypical pneumonia.
A 83-year-old man died in United Christian Hospital, bringing to 16 the total number of deaths relating to atypical pneumonia. Most of the deaths occurred in individuals who have a history of chronic diseases, or were patients who sought treatment at a relatively late stage of infection.
The cumulative figure for patients who have been admitted to public hospitals with atypical pneumonia since March 12 is as follows:
