Career Opportunities for Non-locally Trained Dentists

The Department of Health (DH) welcomes non-locally trained dentists at various career stages to join us in the provision of public dental services in Hong Kong.

Apart from the pathway of taking the Licensing Examination of the Dental Council of Hong Kong, the Dentists Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024 has been passed on 10 July 2024 and gazetted on 19 July 2024 which creates new pathways for the admission of qualified non-locally trained dentists to Hong Kong. The amendments will come into effect in 2025.

You may work in DH via the newly introduced pathways of Limited Registration (LR; open to all dentists) and Special Registration (SR; open to specialist dentists). We plan to have the first batch of LR and SR dentists to work in our department in the first quarter of 2025. Overview

To be eligible for applying a Contract Dentist post with us through LR or SR, you need to be registered as a dentist under the law of a place outside Hong Kong. In general, you should have at least one-year full-time post-qualification clinical experience.

There are two types of Government job vacancies – civil service and non-civil service. Generally speaking, new recruits to either type of job must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong SAR.

Duties

A Dental Officer is mainly deployed on giving dental care and performing other related duties at dental clinics under DH.
